Origami is a creative art done with the paper. It is the ancient art of Japan but said to have its origin in China. This art involves paper folding and creating some amazing images which otherwise seem impossible to create from a medium like paper. The origami or papermaking was developed in China and some of the oldest folding paper models found are from china itself. Later it was adopted by the Japanese people but still many are of the opinion that origami took its birth and developed in Japan. The traditional form of origami was based on a square piece of paper from which endless variety of shapes could be created with the help of various small numbers of folds. This art form when practiced in ancient times did not involve cutting and pasting.

Other than china and Japan, Spain and France started practicing this art in 16th century. The people of Spain used to fold the paper documents or baptismal certificates in the form of little birds called PajaritaӔ. In the similar fashion CocotteӔ was done in France. Origami is an art where the designs you make can be simple like that of birds or aero planes or complex with lot many intricacies like buildings or spring made of single piece of paper. To make a complex structure foil is preferred than paper as it can be folded more with less bulk.

The standard origami paper is mostly 15cm and there are some standard folds which help in creating bases. Once the base is shaped then other folds done will create different shapes. One of the most famous shapes in Japanese Origami is the shape of a Crane as it is considered to be very lucky. One of the many legends pertaining to Origami declares that the person who makes thousand paper cranes all his desires will come true. Since then the origami crane symbolizes peace in Japan.

Many new artists gave their contributions in this art form like the credit of creating curved and spiral shapes in origami works goes to Joseph Albers, and Akira Yoshizawa introduced new techniques and intricate art forms. His wet paper folding technique helped in holding the shape better when the designs were complex structures.

The American Museum Natural History in New York since last 30 years erected a Christmas tree which is every year adorned with different Origami shapes like birds, turtles, lobsters, dinosaurs and crabs. The different shapes created held people spell bound. The people with special liking and inclination toward creativity can try their hand on origami with the help of books available for the beginners. The books available are the complete guide with proper instructions and several diagrams to help you out.

Kits with illustrated instructions and materials needed for origami art are also available. These kits are amazing and even children can give a try and make this miniature work of art known as Origami.

Do you think that creative writing can be taught?

First, let me say that I have taken only one creative writing course in my life. And so, my experience is not extensive. But, having written for many years, I can tell you what Ive observed.

Teachers can help you hone your craft. They can even teach you tricks to overcome obstacles to the creative flow. But I doubt they can teach you to be creative.

If I worked very hard with a good teacher, I might gain respectable proficiency at the piano. I might even learn musical theory and composition and pass every course with honors. And yet, IҒll never compose a piano sonata, which stirs us to the depths, without that amazing ingredient creativity. It cant be taught.

Why not? Because creativity is a gift. It comes from within, and is personal to the individual. You either find it within yourself and work with it or you donҒt. Its much the same with writing or painting. Only a tiny handful will ever write a novel, which is truly original or creative.

If a writer does manage such a feat, he or she likely created it only after many years of hard, lonely struggle. ItҒs a private task, which doesnt much benefit from exposure in the classroom. After all, donҒt you do your very best work in a quiet spot, late at night when the daily minutiae have faded to a dull roar? And then, consider if you have ever read a novel written by a committee?

Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and father of psychoanalysis, speaks of the creative instinct along with other instincts, such as the urge to activity and reflection. These are innate instincts, which cause human beings to strive, build and create. So, if its a human instinct, isnҒt it available to all human beings? Apparently not. If it were, all of us would all be able to write that sonata or novel which speaks to untold generations.

Jung also says that the creative artist is one who has unusual access to the subconscious.
If so, maybe theres a way to access that mother lode. IҒve been reading a fascinating book, The Tao of Photography. With many beautiful photographs, its written by Dr. Philippe Gross and Dr. S.I. Shapiro, both psychologists and photographers. Sometimes, I really enjoy camera work as it helps me concentrate on my surroundings, which I find helpful in capturing a mood for writing.

The book applies the teachings of the Chuang-tzu, a collection of writings from the fourth, third and second centuries B.C.E. to the art of photography. It speaks of Little Understanding and Great Understanding. I love how those states of being are described:

Great understanding is broad and unhurried;
Little understanding is cramped and busy.
Chuang-tzu

It seems to me that our daily lives are filled up with ґlittle understanding. Just look at my daily list of errands and things to do! Here we are running around with our heads down [cramped and busy] concentrating on the little inconsequential stuff. What if we look up and around ourselves and even inside ourselves? Great understanding is broad and unhurried. Just think what we might see and what doors we might open.

When we slow down and shift our focus not only to observing everything about life, but also looking inside ourselves, thatҒs when we have a chance of tapping into the creative spirit. Unless we do, no amount of concentration on technique [which can be taught] will ever help us listen to our inner voice. After all, arent writers always told they must find their own voice? I say to do that, we have to learn to listen and pay attention to the outer life surrounding us as well as our own inner life.

Suppose you do actually get past that cramped and busy stage. [The Tao of Photography has numerous excellent suggestions as to how to accomplish that.] What will you find? Maybe nothing special. But if a writer is lucky, he might just tap into something wonderful҅his true creative spirit. If we can get out of our conscious way and let the images, words, music, ideas and emotions flow, then we just might have something to work with.

In writing, I think thats what the first draft is all about. Then the more rational, analytical part of the brain takes charge and refines what has been created. Then a teacher can help you by showing you the techniques of your craft. Maybe a first draft of a novel should be a prerequisite for entry into a creative writing course. What do you think?

Memories Captured

Photography simply changes the way we see the world. The
photograph is a kind of document of the memories. There are photographs where
the most ordinary subject can become beautiful and different. It is the
compositions of the photograph which makes the difference. Be it a picture of
the kids or the family, it is the way in which the subject matter is shot
that matters the most in photography.

Gone are the days when one used to get holed up in a tiny
little studio with four flashlights focusing on the face. The generation has
changed, so has the style. Most of the modern photographers provide bright
innovative ideas for photographing the family. You need not be stiff or
catch your breath the whole time the photograph will be shot. The composition of
the shot determines the aesthetic value of the photograph. A good photograph is
almost like a piece of art which shows the creative artists genius. He puts his
brains and tries to capture the emotion of the subject in such a manner so that
it is reflected in the photograph.
Ҡ
There are ways of capturing the moment. A good photograph
will come alive in the hands of a good photographer. Moreover many try to create
a difference with most hackneyed subjects. Like you can capture the image of the
high school seniors in the family with your photograph, but you can put
your imagination to choose the background which will make the picture perfect.
Subjects like representation of childhood, eternal connection with nature and
natural objects and lost innocence are common. Instead of typifying them within
a set framework a good photographer will always try to bring a sense of
uniqueness within the photographs. Often the most unique scenes speak of a
variety of emotions.

Most of us who appreciate a good piece of work will love a
good photograph. There are ways in which parts of a picture combine an
integrated whole. Once we recognize those portions we will identify the
uniqueness of the photograph. Moreover the foreground and background are
important in creating a fuller impact of the photograph. It is said that kids
make an interesting subject matter. They are vibrant, colorful and extremely
natural and spontaneous. When you draw a portrait or capture an image, you
should be careful about the angle from which the light focuses on the subject.
Even a normal item captured from a different angle will simply make the subject
more charming.

A viewers perspective is the most important consideration
in a photograph. Apart from the way it is shot, the other important thing to be
considered is the subject matter. Both the subject matter and the form create
the ultimate effect on the viewers. A photograph will only create an impact if
it compels the viewers to think about the photograph. With digital photography,
capturing an image has become an easy task. There are a number of good sites
which actually print the photos. New ways have emerged which takes the subject
out of the studio and makes it livelier and more beautiful. One good site is
<a href="http://www.familiesbycdp.com/" style=""color:" target="_blank">
www.familiesbycdp.com. This site is known for its fresh innovative ideas.
The subject matter can be anyone. They can be kids, family or high school
seniors, but they are known to create a difference with their techniques.
Ҡ

Someone has to show you where to begin.

Putting paint to canvas is a desire many of us have. It seems like a calming way to spend a few hours. Imagine standing at an easel with a brush in your hand, creating a picture of a striking red flower you saw on a walk, not a flaming red, but a creamy kind of tomato red and you were able to match it perfectly. This would be the ideal way to find some serenity in your daily life. The right hobby can bring tranquility, satisfaction, and pleasure. It can center your thoughts and challenge your mind. The perfect hobby will bring out the secret passion youve kept inside. The only question is, ғhow do I start?

Someone has to show you where to begin, but itԒs never easy to take that first step. The thought of sitting in room with a group of strangers, judging what youre doing, is terrifying. Trying to learn how to paint can make you feel intimidated and inferior. Classes always seem to start a few steps ahead of where you are. But what if everything you needed was in a kit? You could begin to paint at home, where you could learn in a safe and comfortable environment, with no one around to judge you. Having someone who understands what you feel and who will take you step by step through the whole process could change everything.

Finallypaint has created a kit that includes all that youҒll need to begin your new hobby, plus the advantage of a secret weapon, a step by step how-to that will help you comfortably learn what you need to begin to paint. The eBook is created with 17 years of mentoring experience in creative arts behind it. The kit itself includes: six essential studio size and quality oil colours that are specifically selected, a set of three top-quality brushes, one disposable greaseproof palette book to mix colours, one bottle of top-quality medium used to thin the oil paint, one bottle of thinners to clean the brushes, 2 canvas panels, and a mesh zip-lock art case to hold everything. However, what gives this kit that something extra is the eBook that is included. Together the supplies and the eBook will push you over the hump that has kept you from starting to find the quietude you seek within yourself.

Rebecca Lenton tried the Finallypaint kit, hoping to bring the artist she knew she was inside, to life on a canvas. She discovered the kit is simple, to the point, and works. I wasnӒt sure the kit would be able to get me started. But I am very pleased with what the kit has done for me. I am painting regularly now, and the kit gave me the confidence to add more colours, brushes, and larger canvases. I have created over 10 paintings and I feel like Ive finally achieved a lifelong dreamҔ.

If the idea of learning to paint excites you, then take the time to scan the Finallypaint web site at www.finallypaint.com. Read about the kit and the joys of painting, and see the money back guarantee that only a company who whole heartedly stands behind their product would offer. Have the confidence to believe you can paint, and start to find that harmony in your life that a great hobby will bring.

Are you intrigued by the idea of using photography to make time stand still, and creating keepsakes that will be treasured for generations? Maybe you love being a part of the excitement that comes with the glorious moments in human life: weddings, comings of age, and grand celebrations. You want to be there to record it forever.

Professional photography has been around for decades, yet it continues to be one of the most innovative and creative art forms in the world today. Being your own boss and determining your own schedule are just a few of the perks. Earning a living creating unique and creative images of people’s cherished moments makes the decision to start a photography business a great one.

The family and wedding photography industry is booming right now in the United States. The real emphasis placed on the importance of family has seen a surge in portrait photography, and couples in love are spending thousands of dollars on their wedding photography. Add in the fact that professionals of all types need headshots for business use, and there is no shortage of work for the aspiring professional photographer.

It’s not difficult to start a photography business all you really need are a good camera with the necessary lenses and equipment, and an eye for composition. But in order to attract clients and create a thriving business that you can call a true career, there are a few other things you’ll want to do. Here’s some advice from the FabJob Guide to Become a Professional Photographer that will help you achieve your goals.

1. Plan and prepare

Before setting up studio space, buying equipment, or looking for clients, you’ll need to plan what type of photography business you’ll be running. Will it be wedding photography, portrait photography, pictures of young children or high school graduates, or some combination of these? Think about the type of photography you’re most passionate about, the services you’ll offer and the type of image you want to present.

To build your photo-taking skills, you can take photography classes at a local art school or community college, buy some good how-to books, and most importantly, practice by taking pictures of friends and family. Getting feedback on your work from other professionals will also go a long way to helping your build your skills to the professional level.

2. The right tools for the job

As mentioned, professional quality digital photography equipment is a must. This includes at least one digital camera with a few interchangeable lenses, and digital memory for file storage. Additional lighting and backdrops are a great addition if you plan to shoot portrait work inside. If you need to shoot onsite (at weddings, for example), a durable-but-lightweight camera bag will help you protect and transport photography equipment.

Many photographers find it difficult to work without the help of a computer editing program, and a website to attract customers is important too. A good training book and some business planning will help you start a photography business knowing exactly what tools and equipment you’ll need for the services you have in mind.

3. Setting up your studio or office

Starting a photography business requires a studio or an office where you will be able to greet prospective customers, review prints, fill out forms, and conduct other in-person business. When you set up your space to start a photography business, keep in mind the services you’re planning on offering. The reception area of someone who plans to work primarily with weddings will be very different for someone doing headshots for aspiring models and actors, for example.

When deciding whether or not to invest in things like studio space, consider the advice of Mike Copeland, an official photographer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics: “If you have the space, it’s great to run this kind of business from home. We have our living room set up to meet with wedding clients, and a workspace in the basement.” If you don’t have the funds to equip a studio, you can still shoot outside or on location.

4. Finding customers

When you are ready to start your photography business, youגll want to let the public know you are available for their photography needs. You can pay to advertise your services, although display ads may be too expensive when you first start a photography business. Instead, consider press releases and other low-cost marketing strategies such as referrals.

When your market your photography business, show how your work is unique, without moving too far away from the traditional expectations of your target market. Online directories and a website for your photography business will also help generate and increase sales.
