Wedding Photography & Wedding Photographers

Wedding photographs should capture all the emotion, atmosphere and of course fun of the day. Images should be natural and relaxed, banish those ’stuffy posed’ photos to the back of the drawer.

A wedding photographer’s distinctive and renowned style of photography will enable the couple to relive the day fully for years to come. A wedding photographer should work with the couple and amongst their guests to capture many intimate moments and laughter throughout the entire wedding, quietly capturing real moments as they happen for the bride and groom.

A photographer should provide a superb collection of distinctive images, and work flexibly so the couple can select the photos to include in a package and perhaps arrange in a unique album to truly reflect the couple’s special wedding day.

As a wedding is a one-time event, the wedding photographer must be alert and prepared for anything unexpected. Shooting a wedding is both exhausting and invigorating as the photographer is constantly looking for good light, great angles and opportunities for candid shots.

A well designed wedding album should be created with the couples expectations clearly in mind. Storybook wedding album pictures should have an excellent “flow” to show the wedding day unfolding.

Communication and planning time lines before the event will alleviate many of the stresses associated with photographing a wedding. An ability to tactfully take charge also helps – particularly when photographing large groups or families – a common expectation after the ceremony.

It is not unheard of for a photographer to work with an assistant who may carry their equipment, help round up guests and assist in the shooting through clothing adjustments or the holding up of reflectors. Assisting offers great experience for the “would be wedding photographer”, and assistants should aim to work with as many photographers as possible.

Some individuals we live by the motto “How can I make a difference in the lives of others” so as a business a photographer should consider ways in which they can make a difference within the community and the wider world.

Having a run list with all of the expected shots is also a useful tool for the novice photographer.

Wedding photographers usually have an office or studio and some double as a Retail Photography Studio in many small towns and villages. In bigger cities you might find dedicated wedding studios that only shoot weddings and may have large studios equipped with make-up and hair and gowns ready for the bride to wear. Some studios also have arrangements with Bridal shops allowing the bride to try several gowns during her portrait session.

While the successful wedding photographer’s responsibility is to the bride and groom, brides and their parents generally take greater interest in the results – don’t they always??

The wedding photography profession is a rewarding and lucrative business to be in. If a photographer shows a caring and compassionate nature, he can become well known and make a good impression on customers.

Even though a photographer is behind the lens, the intimate moments they capture will be presented for generations to enjoy.
